Vindication of Vivekananda at the Marxist Failure

Marx and Vivekananda, both of the 19th century world, could not know each other. Marx is already known the world over; Vivekananda an unknown quantity as yet. Vivekananda proclaimed himself to be a socialist in no uncertain terms However, he was surely not a Marxist. Aiming the justice of equality in the society, Marx prescribed annihilation of the bourgeoisie class, though during the testing times in France as the activists in the name of Marx resorted to killings, Marx could not agree to it. Vivekananda's vedantic equality meant assimilation. He proscribed annihilation. Additionally, he emphasized man – woman equality was unknown in Karl Marx.

An Analysis of Green Infrastructure Projects Through Life Cycle Costing: A Decision-Making Tool

Construction of green structures with minimum impact on environment has emerged as a valuable tool to enhance ecosystem and to contribute for the benefit of human populations. No doubt shifting from conventional construction to green structures has high initial investments but over a period of time returns are huge. The study is an attempt to find out the role of Life cycle costing (LCC) in the viability of the construction related projects. The study will focus on cost-benefit analysis of conventional to green construction and expected returns will be calculated. The access the economic viability various financial tools like; payback period, life cycle cost and savings-to-investment ratio will be used. The results will highlight the various factors influencing the overall costs of the construction and try to focus on minimising the total cost and strategies to be framed for the same. The study concludes that Green buildings have benefits in minimising the financial costs with minimum increase in upfront investments as compared to initial costs of conventional buildings. The life cycle yield shows a savings of over 20% of total construction in green projects. The initial sections of the paper cover the background for green marketing, research objective and the research methodology. The latter part of the paper covers the green marketing certification, analysis of the study and the evaluation criteria that companies adopt for green buildings.

Financial Performance in Indian Non-Life General Insurance Sector A Comparative Study of New India Assurance Co Ltd & ICICI Lombard General Insurance Co Ltd.

Indian Non-Life General Insurance sector is both under penetrated and inadequately penetrated. Insurance density as measured with Gross National Product in India is ranked lowest in the world. In such a scenario, the research study would examine the financial performance of New India Assurance Co. Ltd (NIAC) as the leading public sector general insurance company and ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company, (ICICI Lombard) a major private sector general insurance player in Indian economy. The research paper begins with a study of Non-Life General Insurance players highlighting the nature of the risks in managing their business in the economy. The profiles of NIAC & ICICI Lombard are presented with elaborating on financial performance by analysing the financial ratios/indicators. Aspects of risk management of the respective players and insurance sector are also discussed. Conclusions would indicate the benefits of pursuing global best practices of risk management in the current scenario.

The agency participation may have a significant role to play in creation of women empowerment along with enhancement of gender equal society. The study aimed to explore propositions demonstrated a conceptual model based on the extensive literature review. Tax Deduction for Infrastructure Facilities in India –A Case study of Ho Hup Simplex JV

Taxation is one of the important sources of revenue for the government of any country. Most of the countries has well placed taxation laws to regulate the tax related matter and India is not exception to this. Looking at the economic characteristic of the country, huge investment is required into the construction and infrastructure sector. Therefore, the government is motivating the private player to invest into this sector. One of the incentives given to the companies from this sector is tax holiday. Subject to satisfaction of condition laid down in the Act, developer of infrastructural facilities can avail tax holiday up to 10 year. The present case is about one company engaged in development of infrastructural facility in India. The company claimed the deduction under section 80IA of the Act. However, the Assessing Officer denied such claim. On appeal by the assesse with higher judicial authority, the case was heard by both the parties. The final verdict is given by referring to the earlier case laws so as to meet the legal intention of the inserting provision of tax holiday in the taxation laws. The present case is structured as follows. The case starts with the information about the public sector construction scenario in Indian economy in early 90s. It also talks about the necessity of private participation in the development of infrastructure sector in India. The discussion is followed by case background which helps to formulate the problem statement. The problem statement is then answered with the help of prevailing provisions in the Income Tax Act 1961 and judgement given in the case by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal “D” Bench: Kolkata.
